Facebook Gadget - Supported Browsers
The Facebook Gadget has been tested on multiple browsers and it should work on most of them. The main exception is Internet Explorer 8.
The Gadget detects the browser of the user and chooses the mobile version of Facebook that works best in it:
- iPhone: the iPhone version of Facebook is the best looking one (you can see it in the preview pictures too). It is has been tested on Firefox 2 and 3, Safari, Opera and Chrome
- Mobile: it's simpler and with less appealing graphics. It's used on browsers that cannot render the iPhone version correctly: Internet Explorer 6 and 7
Browsers not listed above (or browsers not tested) use the Mobile version by default. Some of the supported browsers may still have problems because of additional plugins or a particular sub-version. A special case is IE8: it is unable to render the iPhone version (it raises Javascript errors and it shows a wrong formatting) and it refuses to render xhtml mobile code used by the Mobile version, offering the user to download the unknown content instead. We don't have a workaround for it right now.
If a browser is not supported because of issues in the Gadget code, it should be possible to fix it and to improve
its compatibility.
If the error is caused by the Facebook site itself (either iPhone or Mobile) there's not much we can do,
since the code is controlled by Facebook - and we cannot blame them, since it's intended for mobile phone
navigation rather than desktop use.
